Six Husker seniors have been selected to lead the number one ranked Cornhuskers into the 2000 season as team captains elected by their team mates as captains for the 2000 season.
Elected by their team mates as captains were I-back Dan Alexander, offensive guard Russ Hochstein and tackle Jason Schwab were elected as offensive captains, while defensive tackle Loran Kaiser, rush end Kyle Vanden Bosch and Mike linebacker Carlos Polk were chosen from the defense.
The six man captain squad is the largest such group in Husker history. Never before has the team elected more than five players to serve as captains. Five captains were chosen prior to the 1995 and 1998 seasons.
"I think that the number of captains is very indicative of this team and the strong leaders that we have here on this squad." said Husker head coach FRank Solich. "There were a number of guys very deserving of being a captain and many who received votes but were not named a captain. That shows how special it is to be named a captain here at Nebraska. The players recognize that and take great pride in it. This group of guys will do a great job of leading this team."
